È la più piccola delle raganelle, con corpo generalmente lungo al massimo 4 cm, raramente fino a 5 cm. La testa è corta e larga poco staccata dal resto del corpo, con occhi grandi e sporgenti. I maschi hanno in corrispondenza della gola il sacco vocale, riconoscibile anche quando non cantano per la presenza di numerose pliche cutanee. Le dita hanno dilatazioni a ventosa che permettono di aderire e arrampicarsi su qualsiasi superficie.
La pelle è glabra, con colorazione in genere verde brillante, più o meno scura, ma spesso con macchie sul dorso grigie o nerastre o verdi più scure. La gola e il ventre sono bianchi. Lateralmente si distingue una fascia nera che parte dalle narici fino al fianco attraversando l’occhio. Contrariamente alla raganella italiana, quella sarda non presenta la derivazione dorsale della banda nera. La banda è inoltre poco bordata di bianco.
The Sardinian tree frog (Hyla sarda) is an Amphibian of the order of the Anuri, endemic to Sardinia, Corsica and the Tuscan Archipelago.
It is the smallest of the tree frogs, with a body generally long at most 4 cm, rarely up to 5 cm. The head is short and wide, slightly detached from the rest of the body, with large, protruding eyes. The males have the vocal sack at the throat, recognizable even when they do not sing due to the presence of numerous skin folds. The fingers have suction dilatations that allow to adhere and climb on any surface.
The skin is hairless, with a generally bright green color, more or less dark, but often with gray or blackish or darker green spots on the back. The throat and the belly are white. Laterally a black band is distinguished which starts from the nostrils up to the side crossing the eye. Contrary to the Italian tree frog, the Sardinian one does not present the dorsal derivation of the black band. The band is also slightly edged in white.
