Pianta erbacea con fusto eretto pubescente, alto fino a 70 cm, ramificato superiormente, le foglie sono pennatosette, verdi, con lamina superiore screziata di bianco, quella inferiore bianca e tomentosa, dotate di spine robuste, ordinate sui margini.
Nei mesi di aprile e luglio si osservano i capolini composti di fiori tubulari bianco-lilla o rosa-porpora. Ricettacolo di squame pelose terminanti con un’unica spina scanalata, popola i terreni incolti, aridi, i pascoli e i bordi delle strade di tutti i paesi che si affacciano sul Mediterraneo
The scarlina (Galactites tomentosa) is a plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. The name derives from the Greek γάλα (= “milk”), in reference to the white color of the thick hair covering the stem and the leaves of this species.
