E’ un arbusto spinoso alto da 50 a 80 centimetri, con rami verdi sottili e abbondanti. Ha due tipi di foglie, quelle inferiori sono trifogliate e quelle superiori sono semplici. I fiori ricordano la forma di una farfalla, gialli e riuniti in un’infiorescenza definita a “racemo” cioè sistemati un uno sopra l’altro lungo su un fusto fiorifero principale. Fiorisce nel periodo tra aprile e giugno. Il frutto è un legume, di forma ovale di circa 10 millimetri di lunghezza di color verde che a maturazione oltre a diventare bruno mostra anche un evidente uncino all’apice. Il piccolo legume contiene all’interno 1 o 2 semi, globosi, di colore nero.
Typical species of Sardinia can be found exclusively in the south-western part of the island representing one of the typical features of the Protected Marine Park. Diffused in particular in the islands of Sant’Antioco and San Pietro and in all the coastal areas of the glesiente up to the mountain territory of the park of Marganai.

The fruit is a legume, oval in shape of about 10 millimeters long, green in color, which, when ripe as well as brown, also shows an evident hook at the apex. The small legume contains within 1 or 2 seeds, globose, of black color.
