Gli amanti, giudicati dalla ragione Divina, vennero tramutati in pietra, colpevoli di una relazione d’amore proibita. I due, ormai pietrificati, vennero posti in un campo come monito per ricordare a tutti i passanti che il Divino si sarebbe opposto a ciò che è considerato un errore. Da un altro punto di vista è anche vero che si può guardare il finale con occhi diversi, immaginandoci un epilogo dalla vena più romantica, pensando al fatto che i fidanzati, seppur con altre fattezze, stiano da sempre e per sempre uno accanto all’altra.
